CryoSat Crashes
Cryosat, a satellite developed to monitor changes in the ice caps have crashed into the Artic Ocen shortly after the launch from Russia's Plesetsk launch pad on the 9th of September.
It's beleived that the carrier rocket's booster system failed during the launch causing the loss of Cryosat, which was developed by ESA (the European Space Agency). The loss is quite a blow to ESA who planned to used the satellite for a period of 3 years to do some intensive studies on the polar ice caps.
The Russian Space agency has suspended all further launches of the rocket used in the failed launch attempt pending the results of an investigation.
